CITY will host the winner of Shrewsbury versus Wolves in the fifth round of the FA Cup, after beating Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at Ashton Gate last Friday night, writes Will Collins.

It is the first time we’ve reached the fifth round since 2001 and credit must be given to head coach Lee Johnson who is taking the cup competitions seriously, having also guided us to our first league cup semi-final in 29 years last season. Too many of his predecessors have viewed the cups as an unwanted distraction, when I think the reality is, they can be a great springboard for success.

City had to come from behind on Friday night against a Bolton side that showed more endeavour than they had done in the league match between the two sides a fortnight earlier.

Connell’s pinpoint cross was converted by Beevers to give the away side the lead after six minutes. But City were back in the game a couple of minutes later.

Republic of Ireland international O’Dowda took the ball down on his chest and fired past Matthews in the Bolton goal. O’Dowda has been in fine form for City of late.

The game was settled on the half-hour mark when Eliasson scored goal of the night – and possible goal of the round. He cut in from the right hand side and smashed the ball into the far corner of the net from outside the penalty area.

The result means City won all five games they played in January and are now 12 games unbeaten, with our last defeat being at Leeds back at the end of November.

It’s a fantastic run of form and means we are set for an exciting run-in.

This Saturday City host Swansea City at Ashton Gate in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd (3pm). The Swans are just four points behind City in the table and are on a decent run of six games unbeaten themselves.
