THORNBURY'S improvement continues with a narrow victory at Old Bristolians 3rds at Failand

The first-half was evenly contested with both sides having chances to score.

The experience of Mandy McGarry was invaluable for Thornbury in midfield and with Amy Horler and Jess Taylor also combining effectively, with numerous inter passing and well executed through balls to Nicky Bruce and Molly Smith ensured that the home defence were tested.

Rosie Liddington roamed all over the pitch and promising Summer Johnson had her best game for the senior side contributing with a number of inch perfect passes to team-mates.

Melinda Evans, Ella Wheatley and Carys Allen were efficient in defence and thwarted the many home attacks.

Molly Glue in the unaccustomed position of goal keeper shone with many saves which ensured the home side didn’t score in a display which earned her the player of the match accolade.

Thornbury finally got their reward midway through the second-half when a Jess Taylor ball into the circle saw Rosie Liddington guide the ball home. Despite a couple of scares, the defence held firm and another three points was gained.

Clifton Robinsons 5ths 5

CLIFTON Robinsons were not expecting to have to work hard for the points against a young home side.

The visitors took an early lead and went onto score four goals in the second-half when Thornbury were reduced to a bare eleven players due to injuries suffered in the first period.

Lucy Vizard was player of the match for Sarah Brealey's side following a strong performance in defence Ella Clarke in a rare appearance was outstanding in the second-half, whilst Ellie Coleman, Lauren Lever, Charlie Griffiths and Anna Prince were prominent in midfield.

Saffy Bennett, Izzy Wyres and Chloe Fowler were capable in defence thwarting a number of visiting attacks, whilst Hannah Kemp in goal executed some goal saving saves. The Thornbury goal was scored by the ever reliable Sarah Lally.

Thornbury visit Bristol on Saturday in their next game.
