GFA U18 County Cup semi-final

Slimbridge 1

Almondsbury 1

(Almondsbury win 5-4 on penalties)

ALMONDSBURY progressed to the final of the GFA U18 County Cup final following a tense penalty shootout at Thornhill Park, writes David Morgan.

Prior to kick-off one minute's silence was impeccably observed for two local football legends who sadly passed away this week, Trevor Horsley, former chairman of Forest Green and former Shortwood and Forest Green player Nick Ackland.

Slimbridge had the better of a scoreless first-half.

The first goal of the night came from a Slimbridge corner, Fin Brown headed the ball sweetly into the Almondsbury net on 57 minutes.

Almondsbury then went all out and were rewarded with an equaliser on 82 minutes. At full-time the 1-1 scoreline took the tie straight to a penalty shoot-out.

A fine save from Ollie Jones in the Almondsbury goal made the difference on the night as the other nine penalties were all scored.

Almondsbury face Gloucester City in the final on May 2.
