Yate Town were knocked off top spot after second bottom Barnstaple Town completed the double over the Bluebells.
Saddam Bello scored a brace in the second half to put the hosts 2-0 up in the second half to shock Paul Britton's side.
The second came with just two minutes to go but Olly Mehew replied almost instantly to give the Bluebells late hope.
Yate applied late pressure but it proved too little too late and they drop back to second after the defeat while Barnstaple remain 19th but three points off safety.
Britton's men host fifth place Winchester City at Lodge Road on Saturday.
