South Glos 3

DURSLEY pipped South Glos to the division two title in a seven-goal thriller.

The lead changed hands four times during the match before Dursley emerged as champions.

Dursley started well and put the South Glos defence under pressure, but went behind after 15 minutes to a well placed shot from a short corner.

Not to be denied, Hattie Dent put Charlie Strickland through to equalise. Dursley keeper Hayley Critchley kept the score level with a great save kicking the ball away to safety while lying on the ground after a save. Following good play in the D Vicky Moulder put Dursley 2 – 1 ahead at half-time.

After the break, South Glos went on attack and soon equalised with as shot deflected high into the Dursley net and then went ahead again following a short corner.

Dent was also involved in Dursley’s equaliser this time getting the ball to Caitlin Cother to score. South Glos. looked dangerous particularly from short corners but the usual Dursley defence of Linzi Moulder, Stacey Sealey and Kirstie Way stood firm. The winning goal came 10 minutes from time when a shot by Rosie Dimery was given the final touch by Clare Rodgers – her first goal of the season.

South Glos strove hard to equalise which would have given them the title and forced two short corners but these were dealt with by a resolute Dursley defence. In a rare Dursley attack Linzi Moulder was just wide with a shot. This was an excellent team performance by all the Dursley players. Both teams will play in Division 1 next season.
