Gloucestershire County Cricket Club have signed Australian opening bowler Chadd Sayers who will be joining the team in time to face Sussex next week.

Renowned for his accurate swing bowling, Sayers will be joining a Gloucestershire side in prime position to push for promotion to Division 1 of the Specsavers County Championship.

Chadd will be with the Gloucestershire squad until Thursday 25 July.

Sayers also has the option to play for Gloucestershire in the two Vitality Blast fixtures that will take place at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival.

On joining Gloucestershire, Sayers said: "I am delighted to be heading to Gloucestershire for part of the 2019 season.

"It has always been an ambition of mine to play County cricket and I'm really looking forward to getting started.

“Hopefully I can help the team as they push for promotion from Division 2."

The medium-pacer made his Test debut for Australia in 2018, taking the prize scalp of AB de Villiers for his first Test wicket.

A first-class cricket specialist, Sayers is unlike most other fast bowlers in the modern era relying on precision and swing to tease batsmen into making vital mistakes.

Head Coach Richard Dawson added: "It's great to have Chadd joining us for the next couple of months.

"He's a consistent performer in Shield cricket and his experience and skills will be valuable in the upcoming Championship matches."

In Australia, he plays for the West End Redbacks, the South Australian representative team in the Sheffield Shield, a 50-over competition Sayers has dominated since taking the most wickets in the competition in 2012/2013.

Gloucestershire's next County Championship match is at Sussex on Tuesday, June 11.
