ON a frenzied day of transfer activity, Forest Green Rovers have snapped up Welsh striker Aaron Collins on a free transfer.

The 22-year-old joins Rovers following the end of his contract with fellow League Two side Morecambe.

Hot on the heels of midfielder Ebou Adams who signed earlier today for an undisclosed fee from Ebbsfleet, Collins becomes the second New Lawn arrival through the door and Rovers' fourth of the summer.

The former Welsh Under 19 international has over 70 first-team appearances to his name and made an immediate impact at Morecambe following his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances, including one in the 3-0 win over Rovers last season.

He is aiming to carry that form on at The New Lawn and says he can’t wait to team up with his new strike partners and build on last season’s fifth-place finish.

Collins said: “It’s a great club and when they came in and said they were interested in me, I was very interested in talking to them.

“They are a club on the up. They only came up two years ago and last season showed what they are about, making the play-offs.

“Hopefully next season or the season after we can get promotion.

“I got eight goals in 15 appearances while I was at Morecambe and impressed a lot of managers and that was my aim.

“I need to play regular football and scoring as many goals as I can to get this team promotion.”

Mark Cooper, FGR manager, said: “Aaron is a great signing. He went to Morecambe and was outstanding.

“He caused us havoc when we went up there and is intelligent in terms of his football play.

“He will be another quality and exciting addition. He is tall, can score goals and can definitely help the team next season.”

Collins began his career at Bristol City’s academy before moving to home-town club Newport County where he was initially not offered a scholarship before signing his first professional contract at Rodney Parade.
