NEW Zealander Jacob Duffy guided Bishopston to a memorable last-over two-wicket home victory over leaders Winterbourne in Premier Two Bristol/Somerset of the Courage West of England Premier League.

Bish were in trouble at 98-7 as they chased 210 for a derby success before Otago all-rounder Duffy took control with a masterful unbeaten 78 off 71 balls (five fours, four sixes).

Captain Frank Connelly (14) and Lawrence Cook (six not out) provided outstanding support with the bat after Chris Kislingbury (49) and Darren Vickery (42) had earlier top scored for Winterbourne.

Dan Lezar thumped 152 off only 84 deliveries for Thornbury who went on to crush fellow high-flyers Burbage & Easton Royal by 320 runs and go top of Premier Two Glos/Wilts.

The opener stroked 14 fours and ten sixes while older brother Marc (60), Nick Willis Stovold (50) and skipper Luke Davis (74 off only 49 balls) also made an impression in a total of 396-6.

In reply, Burbage wilted to 76 all out with new recruit Yvan Grant, Greg Mallitte and Tom Bradley all taking three wickets apiece.

Alex Russell (4-27 from ten) shone in Frocester’s three-wicket home success over Corsham while Aditya Rai’s 4-36 from ten put Dumbleton on the way to a 58-run triumph at Stroud.

In Premier One, newcomers Cheltenham moved out of the bottom two for the first time after chasing down 297 for a four-wicket win at Downend.

Opener Pete Woodland (71) and skipper Nick Evans (51) laid the foundations for Cheltenham’s reply before Mike Kelly (52) and George Pritchard (65) shared an unbroken stand of 106 to get their side over the line.

Bedminster thumped champions Clevedon by eight wickets while Bristol came up just one run short at home to newcomers Lansdown.

In Bristol & North Somerset, leaders Bristol 2nds suffered a seven-wicket reverse away to Bristol West Indian Phoenix who, in the process, claimed pole position.

Bristol struggled to reach 145 before opener Nicky Clark (39) and Orville Pennant (37) led the BWIP response.

It’s so tight in this division that Knowle, who began the afternoon second, dropped to sixth following a five-wicket reverse at Twyford House.

Brislington remain stuck in the bottom two following a 42-run home slip against Stapleton whose top scorers were Alfie Lewis (75) and Babar Pervaiz (69) after recovering from an unpromising 5-2.

Hatherley & Reddings, the Gloucestershire Division leaders, marched on with a 95-run home victory against Tewkesbury while second-placed Bourton Vale edged Rockhampton by seven wickets, captain Charlie Garratt unbeaten on 90.

Richie Cave (4-20) shone in Frocester 2nds’ 53-run win at Cheltenham Civil Service while Jamie Jamieson-Black’s 111 was a highlight of Cirencester’s 54-run home success over Corse & Staunton.

Another centurion was opener Ankit Patel who reached 109 to help set up Gloucester’s 138-run home victory over Painswick, Tom Stannard also weighing in with a fine return of 5-27.
