PLAYERS from 11 different clubs in four divisions have been chosen to represent the Greene King IPA Gloucestershire County League in an inaugural challenge match against their Bristol & District counterparts on July 21, writes Steve Hill.

The side will be led by spinner Jamie Rendell at his home ground of Chipping Sodbury while five other Division One clubs are also represented.

Three from Division Two have been selected, one from Division Three and one from Division Five in the shape of Sheepscombe’s Chris Williams.

Tom Stevens, who has been tasked with managing the County League side, said: “We have a great mix of lads and I’m really excited about the team that’s been put together.

“No one is quite sure when the league last fielded a representative team so this is a big moment for everyone involved.

“There’s been a great deal of interest in the match and we now can’t wait to get to Sodbury. Hopefully there will be a big crowd to cheer us on.”

The County League won a coin toss to decide who would host the match which it is hoped will become an annual event.

John Colley, of Bristol YMCA, has been appointed captain of the Bristol & District side which will be announced on the weekend.

The Gloucestershire Cricket Board have put up a trophy which will be presented to the winners.
