ALEX LUMSDEN insists new-look Slimbridge are still evolving.

In their penultimate pre-season game before they welcome Yate Town on Thursday, the Swans were held to a 1-1 draw at Brimscombe & Thrupp. Ben Aitkin gave the visitors the lead, but Sam Blackie levelled things up for Sam Prior’s side.

“We’re really pleased with the performance, particularly the second half as we took control more in possession,” said assistant manager Lumsden.

“There were a few things we needed to work on from the Longlevens game in the final third that the boys have grasped - as they have done throughout pre-season with a great attitude.

“ We took our goal really well and it was nice to see more bodies in and around the box, but it was a shame that we conceded so soon after scoring knowing that Brimscombe were always going to be a threat with the forward players they have at their disposal. Considering we’ve bought in several new players everybody is gelling very well, and we couldn’t ask for more than that as we continue to evolve as team.”

Slimbridge start their season with a home FA Cup tie against Edgware on August 10.

The Swans begin their Southern League campaign at Melksham Town, August 17.
