FA Cup preliminary round

Fairford Town 3

Enfield 2

FAIRFORD TOWN boss Jody Bevan experienced a gamut of emotions as his side edged a five-goal FA Cup thriller.

Town looked well set as a first-half brace from Connor Thompson appeared to put his side comfortably in the next round, but Bevan was given touchline palpitations as Enfield edged back in the tie to draw level on the hour. However, Enfield defender Josh Woodcock allowed Ben Lodge to nip in to score the winner. Fairford had to see the tie out with 10 men after Kallum Thomas was issued his second yellow card.

A relieved Bevan said: "I went through the full-range of emotions during the game.

"First-half, we were superb and played great football and could have been more than two goals up, but we started the second-half terribly and found ourselves at 2-2 after having lost all momentum and had a mountain to climb. Fortunately we dug deep and got the goal despite having lost three players, including our goalkeeper to injury during the course of the game, but three wins on the spin has made it a great first week to the season for everybody connected with the club."
