August Medal

BREEZY conditions for the August Medal at Cirencester Golf Club on Sunday meant there were workmanlike rather than super scores, with five players recording nett 68s.

Richard Merry topped the leaderboard as well as Division Three off his 21 handicap. He edged out the top trio in Division One – Jeremy Homan-Green (68), Mark Woodhead (68) and Nigel Curtis (68) – with Bruce Peare finishing fifth overall and top of Division Two on the same score.

Darren Robison was deemed to have recorded the best gross score of 75 from four possible candidates – including Tuesday’s Midweek Medal winner Nick Peare – thanks to his three birdies on the back nine.

There were just four twos signed for in the tough conditions: Mark Woodhead (2nd), Nigel Curtis (9th) and Jeremy Homan-Green (13th), with Tom Waller earning the most credit for his eagle two on the 16th.

RESULTS:

Division One: Jeremy Homan-Green (75-07=68), Mark Woodhead (77-09=68), Nigel Curtis (78-10=68), Glenn Skinley (78-09=69).

Division Two: Bruce Peare (79-11=68), Nick Rutter (83-13=70), Simon Underwood (82-11=71), Andrew Dickson (85-13=72).

August Midweek Medal

NICK PEARE beat Jonny Cowley on countback to secure the August Midweek Medal on a day of tip-top scoring in benign conditions last Tuesday.

Nick posted the best gross score of the day (70) off his handicap of five to return a nett 65 which included three birdies and an eagle on the par five 12th hole.

Nick, the midfield supremo for Yate Town in the Southern League, has already been among the goals for his club at the start of the new season.

Jonny’s fine round of nett 65 included four birdies.

Completing the leaderboard were the ultra-consistent Tom Waller (3rd/66) and Tom Montgomery (4th/67), while making it an excellent day for their family were Nick’s brothers Jack Peare (67) and George Peare (68) in fifth and sixth place respectively.
