THORNBURY remain top of Premier Two Glos /Wilts thanks to a six-wicket home defeat of Corsham which included an unbeaten 72 from opener Dan Lezar.

Jacob Duffy produced a tremendous spell of 8-13 from nine overs to send Keynsham packing for just 38 and set up Bishopston for a seven-wicket home win in WEPL Premier Two Bristol/Somerset.

The 24-year-old Otago all-rounder ran through the visitors’ line-up to finish with the second best bowling figures this summer in the entire competition behind only Downend’s Matt Jackson (9-27).

And the figures also improved Duffy’s previous best this season of 7-11 against Weston-super-Mare.

Midsomer Norton leapfrogged Winterbourne to go second thanks to a memorable 56-run home victory over their rivals.

Norton were all over the place at 35-6 as Aaron Blake (6-22) made inroads before recovering to reach 162 which proved to be more than enough as Winterbourne slumped from 61-2 to 106 all out.

In Premier One, Fin Trenouth’s patient unbeaten 90 helped relegation-battling Bristol to a four-wicket home triumph over Downend.

Bristol are now ninth and 20 points behind Lansdown, who lost out by two wickets in a low-scoring thriller at Bedminster.

Bath, the only side in with a chance of catching leaders Potterne, tied at home to newly promoted Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire’s George Hankins (42) top scored in Bath’s 244-9 before Cheltenham almost pulled a remarkable victory out of the hat.

The visitors needed 19 off the final two overs and then two from the last ball of the afternoon before finishing all square thanks to a run-out. Josh Breed top scored on 85 and Udit Talati was unbeaten on 52.

Stroud moved closer to safety with a tremendous one-wicket success away to local rivals Frocester.

Callum Gegg’s 46 lifted Frocester to 185 all out, James Job and Islamnabi Ahmadzai both taking three wickets.

Matt Smith (56) and Louis Gegg (49) then top scored for Stroud who held their nerve in a tense finish to get over the line with a ball to spare.

Scott Tremain’s 88 proved to be in vain for Dumbleton who went down by 58 runs at Goatacre.

In Bristol & North Somerset, Max Trotman (79) and father Richard (66) shared a stand of 91 for Twyford House who emerged comfortable 87-run victors at bottom side Timsbury.

Frenchay battled hard before slipping to a five-wicket reverse against leaders Bath 2nds, and Knowle were 54-run derby victors at Brislington where Joe Brimble top scored on 74 from 122 balls and followed up with 4-37 from nine overs.

Third-placed Congresbury romped in by nine wickets against Bristol 2nds while Bristol West Indian Phoenix restricted Stapleton to 109-9 in a 30-over clash before completing a six-wicket win.

Hatherley & Reddings, already crowned as Gloucestershire division champions, were shot out for 69 at home to Corse & Staunton who eased in by four wickets, Brad Fulton (5-12) and Mike Hittings (4-19, both from ten) the stars.

Will Cartlidge (4-18) and Sam Nichols (4-8) put Rockhampton on track for a seven-wicket win at Cheltenham Civil Service, and Painswick squeezed in by two wickets with five balls to spare at Bourton Vale.

Captain Tom Collinson’s 56 helped Gloucester to a four-wicket success at Cirencester while Charlie Aitken bagged 3-24 and followed up with 87 for Frocester 2nds who dominated Tewkesbury by 62 runs.
