Chipping Sodbury Ladies 36

Dursley Ladies 10

Chipping Sodbury Ladies posted their first win of the season over newcomers Dursley, writes Martine Richardson.

Kelly Anne Parsons scored the first try of the day with Meme Deverill converting.

On the 25 minute mark, flanker Lisa Gregory went over for the second try of the game, followed by a successful conversion.

Sodbury's third try arrived when Louise Romanowski sliced through the opposition, passing to winger Laura Pullen, who scored Sodbury’s third try.

Dursley Ladies came charging out of the blocks in the second half and whilst making the most of a penalty advantage given for being on the wrong side of the ball, the visitors scored their first try.

Mis-communication within the Dursley side allowed Sodbury to take full advantage and by utilising the space successfully, Kelly Anne Parsons went over for Sodbury’s fourth try.

Sodbury continued with the dominance in the set play which saw their backs force Dursley back towards their own line. A set piece saw the Sodbury backs gain ground, only to be stopped a metre from the try line. Full-back Katie Summerville was in support and battled through arriving defenders to score Sodbury’s fifth try of the day, with prop Meme Deverill making easy work of the conversion.

Dursley defence was tested to its full when a breakaway run from speedy flanker Tina Best was stopped and saw a Dursley turnover. The visitors found themselves in possession and on the attack. Strong running saw Sodbury under pressure in defence and a penalty for a high tackle gave Dursley an opportunity. Swift thinking from the scrum half saw a quick tap penalty which went unanswered by Sodbury and the visitors scored their second of the match.

The last 10 minutes saw errors on both sides but Sodbury, digging deep, were able to turn the ball over during a ruck and saw Frankie Nutt run half the pitch to score Sodbury’s sixth and final try of the game.
