BRISTOL CITY won their third consecutive away game of the season at Stoke City on Saturday to set-up a big clash with Swansea City this Saturday at Ashton Gate (3pm).

The game is approaching a sell-out which is little wonder given both sides impressive start to the season. The Swans are effectively joint-top with Leeds United and City joint-second, on the same number of points as Charlton Athletic.

City’s away record over the past 12 months has been fantastic and it’s clear Johnson has a plan that keeps on working on the road. City went 1-0 down on Saturday after Martins-Indi cut the ball back to Clucas, following a corner, and the former Hull City and Swansea City player smashed the ball home from inside the area.

But then a dreadful moment of indiscipline from the home side’s Joe Allen cost his team dear. The former Liverpool man went for a 50/50 ball with Brownhill but his studs were up and his foot way too high. The referee correctly gave Allen a red card and the dynamic of the game was changed.

Stoke kept attacking to their credit and had McClean squared the ball to Ince, The Potters would have likely doubled their lead. But City grew into the game quickly and had several decent chances to equalise before half-time, Semenyo with the best of them from close range.

Then, 10 minutes into the second half City had a breakthrough. Right wing back Hunt beat his man and stood the ball up to Diedhiou who nodded in at the far post. City smelt victory and seven minutes later it was that man again Hunt who lifted the ball into the far post and this time the ball was bundled in by Stoke defender Edwards to give City the win.

If our away form continues then all we need to do is improve our home form and another season up near the top of the Championship table looks ominous.
