THE Harleyford Golf Club ladies team took part in the Bucks Shield competition organised by the Bucks County Ladies Golf Association.
The premier club matchplay knockout event ran through the summer and culminated with a semi-final and finals day. Harleyford played both Stoke Park and Wexham Park to reach the latter stages.
It was a close match against Stoke Park, who had won the competition for four seasons running since 2014, but Harleyford pipped them by a small margin.
The semi-finals were contested between Harleyford and Ellesborough plus Beaconsfield and Benham.
The match against Ellesborough was a nerve-shredding contest with the ladies fighting their way into the final with four wins coming in at 4&3, 8&7, 5&3 and two up. The other three Harleyford players were also in a great position so the effort level was huge.
The final was between Harleyford and Beaconsfield - seasoned winners of the cup and who were in a confident mood. Harleyford had home advantage but Beaconsfield were probably the favourites.
Their team spirit prevailed however and the ladies brought back convincing wins 5&4, 5&3, 2&2, and 5&3 with a 4&3 coming in at the same time.
This was an immense achievement for the Harleyford ladies to win the competition for the first time. It could not have been done without the squad of the talented players, the help of the caddies, club supporters and volunteers who were ball spotting.
