YATE TOWN 6 AFC Totton 3

BRISTOL CITY loanee Louis Britton smashed a stunning hat-trick as Yate Town dumped AFC Totton out of the FA Trophy in a nine-goal thriller, writes John Davis.

Fresh from a midweek cup penalty shootout replay victory at Tiverton Town, Yate made it into the third round with another sumptuous display.

From the get-go, Bradley Webb caused the Totton defence problems down the left flank and it was only fitting that he should open the scoring, taking a neat short pass from captain Nick Peare before drilling the ball left foot into the far corner.

Totton were quick to counter. A ball from midfield split Yate's central defenders and Craig Feeney-no stranger to netting goals against the home side-got free to place the ball under the advancing Adam Forster.

Webb was again in the thick of the action at the Lodge Road end before Yate took a grip of the game with two goals in a ten minute spell at the end of the first half.

Britton made it 2-1 after being played in by Sam Kamara when a corner was not cleared by Totton and the young striker soon added to his tally when he robbed a dithering defender and moved to the right of the goal before crashing an unstoppable drive into the top corner.

After an even start to the second half, Totton got back into the game on 57 minutes when a seemingly innocuous long cross from the left found Feeney lurking on the far post and he squeezed the ball into the net from a tight angle.

A three goal blitz then took the game beyond Totton's reach as the home side produced another display of fast-moving attacking football.

Britton completed his hat-trick after more good work from Webb, Peare rounded several defenders in a powerful run before blasting in a left-foot shot at the near post and substitute Ollie Mehew made it six from close range after Tom Boyle had failed to hold a shot from Mayson Evans.

Totton did manage a late consolation when Feeney went through to score with an assistant referee flagging for offside but it did nothing to take the shine off a comprehensive win and a ticket into the next round of the competition.
