FOREST GREEN head coach Mark Cooper insists his side are in rude health after sharing a point against promotion rivals Crewe Alexandra.

Both missed the chance to top the table as they fired blanks in a scoreless draw.

Cooper said: “We’re in a brilliant position, second in the table and if we can pick up some more points up and get to January, we will have the chance to strengthen. I’m satisfied to take a point against a good team and move on, and I’m happy with the way we played.

“We set up a bit deeper tonight and hit them on the counter- attack. We’ve not had a good record at home in big games, so we didn’t want to open and lose tonight.”

Cooper bemoaned referee Charles Breakspear who dished out a raft of cards.

He added: “I think if you’ve got two good footballing teams, the last thing you need is a fussy referee and that’s what we got given it seemed to me every foul was a booking and every contact was a foul.”

Meanwhile, Alex boss David Artell concurred with counterpart Cooper after the stalemate.

“I thought we started brightly enough, and the lads put in a right shift tonight.

“ They set up to sit back and not get exposed by us because we have good players. They defended deep, but we will take the point, it’s a good point.

“We were well disciplined and worked our socks off. We deserved a clean sheet."

“It was a good advert for League Two.
