City put on one of their best performances of the season in a 5-2 demolition of Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Our home form this season has been far from convincing but finally City attacked from the off and moved the ball quickly enough to unsettle the opposition that, as usual, came to defend. On Sunday the club announced that the day before the game City loanee Benik Afobe had lost his two year old daughter Amora, who died after being omitted to hospital for treatment after unexpectedly developing a severe infection. Afobe had been ruled out for the season due to serious injury but the player had in his short time at the club built up a strong bond with players and fans alike. Our thoughts are with the Afobe family at this tragic time.

Given the circumstances it made City’s performance all the more impressive. The first half was a goal fest. City took the lead through Josh Brownhill who converted after Weimann’s effort on goal was saved. On the half-hour mark City doubled their lead when Kongolo put the ball into his own net after pressure from Baker. Karlan Grant got the visitors back in it with a fine finish, but Niclas Eliasson restored the hosts' two-goal cushion just 67 seconds later with a powerful effort that was assisted by Brownhill.

Just before the half-time break Williams headed in from a corner and pointed to the sky, in memory of Amora Afobe, and the game was over as a contest.

Weimann added a fifth just after the restart and whilst the Terriers grabbed a second goal through Bacuna this was an emphatic win for City on a difficult afternoon for the players and staff.

We now have a very tough trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday to face Fulham (3pm), albeit at a venue we’ve done very well at recently, before Millwall visit Ashton Gate next Tuesday (7.45pm).
