CARDIFF CITY loanee James Waite struck in the 89th minute to pinch victory for Weston-super-Mare.
Earlier, former Weston striker Jay Malshanskyj netted parity for Yate after Waite had given the Seagulls an early advantage.
Yate started brightly but Greg Tindle's block denied Lewis Spokes.
However, a sumptuous finish from Waite gave Weston the lead, but Yate rallied. Spokes arrowed in a free-kick which fell to the predatory Malshanskyj who toed home to level the game up.
Yate were bossing it and Lewis Bamford opened up Weston but Jack Twyman fizzed over.
Purnell gloved a Malshanskyj strike over as Yate started the second-half on the front foot.
Waite responded – hitting one onto the bar and then Yate captain Nick Pearce saw his effort skim the post.
At the death Waite grabbed the winner.
