GFA Challenge Cup 2nd

Chipping Sodbury Town 2

Tytherington Rocks 2

(Chipping Sodbury won 4-3 on penalties)

CHIPPING SODBURY goalkeeper Jack Murray was the spot-kick hero as his side held their nerve to progress to the third-round on penalties, writes Mark LIoyd

Earlier, Tytherington Rocks opened the scoring after 22 minutes - Raheem Rowan found the right hand corner of the net with a shot from the edge of the area.

The Sods responded almost immediately and were awarded a penalty just three minutes later after a clear trip in the penalty box. Chris Kritikos struck a fierce shot into the roof of the net to give his side the equaliser.

With five minutes of the half remaining Rowan added his second of the night.

The Sods were awarded their second penalty of the evening following a robust challenge and Luke Burman stepped up with Kritikos having already been substituted. Burman replicated his team- mates spot-kick, firing hard and high into the centre of the net with the keeper diving to his right.

The game opened with both teams searching for a winner, but clear-cut chances were few and far between and the game ended 2-2. And so, to penalties.

Murray saved his best to last and blocked the visitors second and fourth penalties and despite the Sods also having a penalty saved they recorded a reverse of the fixture from 10 years ago and ran out 4-3 winners in the shoot-out.

Sodbury return to league action on Saturday when they host Roman Glass St. George.
