Hereford Pegasus 2

Thornbury Town 1

THORNBURY ended the old year on a losing note, writes Mark Franklin.

Thornbury, in their first match for a month, had first chance of the match when Tom Webb found Craig Lancastle who hit the post and Jacob Farthing shooting straight at Powell and a Franklin free-kick to the left of the 18-yard box was punched clear.

However, Hereford took the lead when Zac Sirrell found the top corner from 25 yards and then four minutes later his free-kick from the edge of the box was deflected off the wall into the bottom corner to double his and Hereford's tally.

Franklin had the chance to halve the deficit just before the break but his free-kick was straight at Powell.

Midfielder Rhys Hodgson replaced right-back Dan Parry as Thornbury switched formation from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 and this paid off almost immediately when a Farthing run saw him pulled back on the edge of the box. Lancastle stepped up and his shot found the bottom corner.

He could have made it two on the hour mark, but couldn't get the ball out of his feet and the opportunity went begging.

Thornbury were now the better side although a string of corners failed to produce a chance and an effort from Joe Guest was wide of the mark and he picked up a yellow card shortly afterwards for a late tackle.

Thornbury welcome Malmesbury Victoria on Saturday, January 4, 3pm. They face Patchway Town the following Tuesdayin the Gloucestershire Challenge Trophy, 7.30pm.
