Bristol Rovers Development Women 2 Dursley Town Ladies 1

DURSLEY suffered an agonising defeat as the Bristol Rovers second string kept their title challenge on track with a last-gasp victory at Lockleaze.

Playing with a strong wind behind them in the first half, Town created the better chances and took the lead approaching the midpoint of the first half.

Gemma Butler's right-wing delivery was poorly defended and young forward Izzy Hughes sidefooted the ball home from close range.

Rovers levelled ten minutes before half-time, although Hughes had two more efforts saved by the goalkeeper as the visitors threatened.

Dursley found it harder against the wind after the break, although skipper Michelle Watson saw a free-kick well saved by the home goalkeeper.

Despite having the elements in their favour, Rovers struggled to create decent chances, until they finally struck the winner two minutes from time.

It was cruel on Dursley, whose defensive players - Hannah Daniels, Claire Gabb, Zoe Gabb and Jasmine Gillingham - put in an excellent performance.

Rovers, meanwhile, will likely need to improve in order to take the title, and will definitely need a squad overhaul to succeed at a higher level.

Dursley: J Turl; H Daniels, J Gillingham, C Gabb; E Allen, G Butler, M Watson, Z Gabb, C Uzzell; L Hughes, I Hughes. Rolling substitutes: V Mansell, S Martin, S Stanley, S Teixera.

Goals: I Hughes (20).

* Dursley entertain Bishop's Cleeve in the league this Sunday.
