Dan Sweeney has become Forest Green Rovers' first summer signing after joining Mark Cooper's side on a free transfer from Barnet.

The versatile central midfielder, who can also play as a defender, has signed a two-year deal with the club.

The 26-year old former AFC Wimbledon player joined Barnet in January 2017 and made 100 appearances for the National League club.

He was voted Barnet’s Player of the Season during their 2017/18 League Two campaign, and has also played for England C.

Speaking to the club, Sweeney said:“I’m excited about being given the chance to prove myself in the Football League again and working with the manager and the team.

"I’m looking forward to getting started, just as soon as we get the green light for the new season.”

Richard Hughes, director of Football at FGR added: "There was considerable interest in Dan this summer, so we’re delighted to bring him to The New Lawn. He’s a strong, powerful and athletic player, who we know will fit right in with our squad.”
