FA Trophy 1st Round SUTTON UNITED 1 FOREST GREEN ROVERS 4 STUART FLEETWOOD continued his prolific scoring form with a brace as Forest Green made it through to the second round of the FA Trophy after being rocked by a plucky Sutton United side.

Jim Harvey's team looked second best when going behind to an early goal, but two more goals from Fleetwood, his 26 th in just 27 games, coupled with strikes from Paul Stonehouse and Chris Giles made the final result of 4 - 1 look an easy stroll.

With Sutton United bottom of the Blue Square Southern Division, Rovers named Michael Brough, Adriano Rigoglioso and Terry Burton.

advertisementRovers were sloppy from the start and allowed Sutton to take a surprise lead as Bashiru Alimi fire wide of Burton.

Fleetwood had been well shacked by defender John Scarborough, but midway through the half he was given his first goal scoring opportunity. Unfortunately Scarborough brought the striker down in the box and received his marching orders from the referee. Fleetwood slotted home from the spot.

Ater the break Lee Dodgson replaced Brough and it was his good work that set up Rovers second. On 65 minutes good interchange between Darren Jones and Dodgson saw a cross nodded in by Stonehouse. With just a couple of minutes remaining Rovers made the game safe, Alex Lawless dinked over a neat cross and Chris Giles was in the right place to head in number three. Rovers added the fourth deep into injury time when substitute Les Afful set up super Fleetwood.

Forest Green: Burton, Lawless, Tonkin, Jones, Giles, Beesley (Afful 78 mins), Rigoglioso (Dodgson 65 mins), Brough (Smith 55 mins), Hardiker, Fleetwood, Stonehouse.

Subs not Used: Preece, James.
