2021-22 has been another difficult year in many ways, but the U14 girls from St Nicholas FC have had a storming season.
On March 20 they played in the final of the Gloucester County Cup.
Prior to this they had faced Bradley Stoke, Longwell Green and Dursley - only conceding two goals and scoring 24.
The girls were ready for a good game against Cheltenham Town and they dominated the opposition in all areas of the pitch with a 5-1 victory.
It’s safe to say they were overjoyed at the result.
Then not a month later on April 10 the girls played the deciding match in the U14 Bristol Girls League against Weston Mendip.
Having been beaten once by them and winning once this game was the decider for the title - and the girls managed to pull together to grind out a 3-3 draw against a determined opposition.
And what a game it was - each time St Nicholas pulled away, Mendip came straight back at them - going 1-1, 2-2, 3-3.
Despite the draw, the point was enough to secure the league title with a game to go. What a season!
Mark Graham, their coach, has devoted much time and effort to this team - himself gaining his UEFA B coaching qualification this year.
Mark and the girls are looking forward to another successful season in 2022-3.
St Nicholas FC play at The Ridings in Chipping Sodbury and a have a number of men’s, boy’s and girl’s teams.
