YATE Town have slipped further into relegation trouble in the Southern League Premier South after a 3-1 home defeat to fellow strugglers North Leigh.

The visitors arrived to the South West Interiors Stadium bottom of the table but two goals inside five first-half minutes put them in a rare winning position.

Jordan Thomas and Craig Hewitt put North Leigh in a strong position heading into half-time and then with 68 minutes on the clock, Michael Hopkins sealed the win.

There was a consolation for Yate from Zachary Drew with five minutes to play but it was nothing more than that as Yate saw their losing run stretch to eight games. They are now second-bottom in the table and are three points from safety having played two games more than Hendon.

Following the result, supporters took to social media to share their disappointment.

The Bluebells have seven games left in the 2022/23 season to save themselves from the drop but face two of the play-off hopefuls in the next three games and only have one game against sides in the bottom half in their remaining fixtures.
