YATE Town have been relegated from the Southern League Premier South after a 2-1 defeat to Swindon Supermarine on Saturday.

The Bluebells were favourites to go down before the weekend started but required three points to keep themselves in with a shout of staying up.

And when Kyle Tooze equalised in the 72nd minute, it looked as if the hosts might go on and record a third straight win to keep their slender hopes alive.

And they felt as though they should have had a penalty shortly after their goal when a handball in the box went unpunished.

But Cooper struck just before injury time to provide Supermarine with a crucial three points to keep their play-off ambitions afloat.

Yate will now play their final game in the division on Saturday when they make the trip to Harrow Borough.

The Bluebells' form since February has had a damaging impact on their season, from lower mid-table to bottom of the league following a run of 11 defeats in a row between February and April.

But back-to-back victories over Easter - 2-1 vs Merthyr Town and 2-1 vs Metropolitan Police - looked to have revived them but in the end they fell short and will drop down into the Southern League Division One South for the 2023/24 season.
