THORNBURY youngster Joseph Leadbeater made the step up from the U11 side to star for the U13s in their away win over Chipping Sodbury on Monday.

Usually playing in the U11 side, Leadbeater was called up to play in the team two age-groups above himself, but there were no signs of nerves as he produced a brilliant display of bowling.

Restricted to just a single over at the end of Sodbury's innings, Leadbeater took a hat-trick in a maiden over as Thornbury bowled out the hosts for 100 in reply to Thornbury's 132/3 from their 21 overs, meaning the visitors won by seven wickets.

Elsewhere at the club, Thornbury's first team trumped Royal Wootton Bassett by five wickets, spinner Harry Donelan taking 4-41 and Robbie O’Donnell cracking 57.

Bassett had elected to bat and were bowled out for 182. Mohamed Cook did score 65 and Akash Sharma posted 55 but runs elsewhere were hard to come by and Thornbury took just 28 overs to reach their target.

The 2XI romped to a 124-run win over Shurdington thanks to a 143-knock from Alex Riggs. Simon Weeks also provided a quickfire 61 and Sam Summerfield also scored a half-century with 56 off just 41 deliveries as Thornbury racked up 325.

Shurdington could only manage 201/6 in their 45 overs. Jared Bone and Harry Blackwell took two wickets apiece for Thornbury.

The 3XI were also victorious in their clash at Carsons & Mangotsfield, winning by 78 runs. James Tunnicliffe (64) and Eddie Slade (66) guided Thornbury to 228/5 from their 40 overs and Saiyajat Kenche took three wickets in the home side's reply.

The 4XI were under pressure to make it a clean sweep for the club over the weekend but they did not let the side down, beating Abbots Leigh by 19 runs.
