SECOND half goals from Luke Franklin and Marcus Wormwell sealed a first win of the season for Thornbury Town on Tuesday night.

Having played and lost their opening three games in the Hellenic League Premier away from home due to ongoing works at their Mundy Playing Fields home, Thorns returned home for their clash with Roman Glass St George.

And it was a winning return as Harry Brock's goal on the stroke of half-time was added to in the second period by Franklin and later Wormwell after Laurent Davis Wilson had equalised for Glass on the hour.

And after a difficult opening to the 23/24 campaign, manager Richard Joyce admitted the return home played a part in the victory.

"After so many away fixtures at the start of the season it was great to be back at home," he said.

"We know we can make the Mundy's a difficult place to come to and we did just that against a Roman Glass side with a lot of players who have played at a higher level.

"We had to dig in and show a resilience that we've sometimes been missing with so many away matches at the start of the season and our reaction to Roman Glass equalising was excellent with Luke's fine goal.

"We were without the ball for long spells, particularly in the first half, but the lads reacted well after half time to the information that they were given and it was reflected in their second half performance and the end result.

"We're grateful to the committee and those at the club who have worked hard to get us back playing at the Mundy's. It made a huge difference.

"It's just one result though. We need many more of those this season and have to park it now and move onto the next game on Saturday and take each game as it comes."
