SWIMMERS at a club in Dursley recently achieved great results at the regional championships.

Young swimmers from Dursley Dolphins took part at the South West Region Championships.

Spencer Smith won a silver medal on the 100 metre breaststroke, he also came fourth on the 200 metre breaststroke.

Isla Jago also made finals on the 50 metre backstroke and the 100 metre backstroke - coming in sixth and fifth place.

Spencer has since qualified for Swim England National Summer Championships in Sheffield at the end of July.

He managed to complete a personal best in his 200 metres breaststroke.

He has been invited to compete as he is currently ranked within the top 14 in England.

Meanwhile, two other swimmers Isla Jago and Georgia Gilbey have both been selected to swim for Gloucester County at the 3 Counties meet.

The competition will take place against Worcestershire and Staffordshire on July 7.

Head coach Jon Falco said: “We are very proud of Spencer for winning a silver medal at the South West Region Championships and then qualifying for the Swim England National Summer Championships.

“He has shown incredible work ethic and a desire to improve over the last year.

“Getting to swim in Sheffield against the best in the country is just reward for his tremendous attitude to training and competing.

“His achievements will inspire others within the club that it is possible to reach this level of performance.

“It is also great to see Isla and Georgia represent Dursley Dolphins within the Gloucester County team.

“They have progressed well this season and both thoroughly deserve their call up for the meet.

“Isla has recently made South West Region finals in the 50m and 100m Backstroke finishing 6th and 5th which was brilliant!

“Georgia made her first South West Region Championships this year and has also qualified for the Independent Association of Prep Schools finals at the London Aquatics Centre on June 8.

“We are continuing to grow as a club and have plans to expand our pool time to facilitate our higher performing swimmers and also increase our provision for some of our other squads.”
