New triathlon series has been announced at Cromhall Quarry

The Lake Triathlon Series 2026 will take place at Cromhall Quarry, marking the first time the venue has organised a full in-house race calendar.

Although the quarry has previously hosted multisport races, this series is the first to be fully managed and promoted by The Lake itself.

Outdoor activities manager Paul Breen said: "Taking the triathlon series in-house allows us to really lean into what makes this venue so special.

"My experience with events such as the Berkeley Marathons has always been about creating a community atmosphere around a challenge.

"We want to bring that same energy to The Lake.

"Whether you are a seasoned triathlete chasing a personal best or a newcomer taking your first dip in open water, we’ve designed this series to be professional, safe and welcoming."

Located between Cromhall and Charfield, just off Junction 14 of the M5, the quarry is known for its clean, open water.

The series follows a sprint-distance format, starting with a 750m swim in the quarry, followed by an 18km bike ride through South Gloucestershire and finishing with a 5km run, ending back at the quarry.

Each race includes chip timing, podium medals and a points system.

Competitors will receive swim hats and access to secure, numbered transition racking.

Professional first aid and water safety teams will be on site.

The series consists of five races, held on the second Wednesday of each month, with a weekend finale in September.

Midweek races will start on May 13, June 10, July 8 and August 12, with registration from 5.30pm and the first wave beginning at 6.45pm.

The final championship event will be held on Saturday, September 12, with an early start and registration opening at 7.30am.

The decision to bring the series under direct management follows a year of increased interest in the site.

Carl Hewlett, marketing manager at The Lake, said: "In 2025, we saw a high number of people visiting The Lake for the first time, and it was particularly encouraging to see our activities attracting a broader demographic to the site."
