YORK CITY have captured utility player Alex Lawless from Forest Green Rovers.

The 26-year-old Welshman, who can play right-back, central midfield and right midfield, joins the club having been with Forest Green Rovers since 2006.

Lawless was a part of the Rovers side that earned their highest ever finish of 8th in the 2007/08 season under manager Jim Harvey where Lawless flourished in a midfield role which saw him earn a call up to the Wales semi-professional international squad.

He started his career as a trainee at Fulham and also had a season with Torquay United.

City Manager Martin Foyle said: "I am delighted to capture Alex's signature as I have been chasing him for sometime.

"He is a great all rounder, a technically good footballer and has a very professional attitude towards the game".

Lawless's season ended prematurely when he suffered a broken leg against York City. Lawless clocked up 101 appearances and hit eight goals in his three years at the New Lawn.
