FRAMPTON COTTERELL were unlucky not to gain their third consecutive league win as Matson produced a late comeback.

With only two minutes gone Matson gave away a penalty which Matt Lawrence missed.

Five minutes later Matson responded with a successful drop goal to give them a 3-0 lead.

Frampton found themselves over the line only for the try to be held up but a further scrum saw No 8 Dean Morsner pick up and power over for the try.

Lawrence was wide with the conversion but was spot on with another penalty just before half-time.

The second half began in similar fashion and after a five-metre scrum Morsner picked up and crashed over for his and the team’s second try which was converted by Lawrence.

In the last quarter of the game possession had shifted and Frampton rallied hard in defence to hold up a Matson try but couldn’t quite secure possession and eventually conceded an unconverted try one minute later.

In the dying minutes of the game Matson scored a try under the posts which was easily converted to give them the draw.

Frampton will be pleased with the point but disappointed not coming away with the win.

Steve Handy and James Smith scored two tries apiece as Frampton won at Barton Hill.

Some lapse tackling around the ruck by Frampton let the home side in for their first unconverted try.

Frampton raised their game and some good rucking allowed them to feed the ball out to the backs giving Handy space to run and go over to level the score.

Frampton held strong at the scrums and Andy Godfrey, playing his first game after injury, put winger James Smith in at the corner for a try converted by Bowen-Hall.

More pressure allowed Steve Handy to break the opponents’ line and cross the line for the try which was again converted by Bowen-Hall.

Great defence from Frampton kept Barts at bay for a period of the game but a couple of missed tackles allowed them to cross the line for their second unconverted try.

Frampton continued to battle hard in the adverse conditions with some good play and were rewarded yet again with some slick hands allowing winger Smith to get his second try.

Barts responded with another try after some missed tackles let them through but Frampton secured a great win with the try of the game from hooker Jamie Evans, who picked the ball up and darted 30 yards through the centre to score.

Merit Table Broad Plain 15 Frampton 3rds 35

With a mixture of experience, youth and determination, Frampton came out rightful winners at Broad Plain.

Frampton forwards played particularly well with Gwill crossing the line twice.

A further score from Ricky Shepherd from a few yards out further increased the score.

Broad Plain battled well and the game was entertaining even in the awful conditions.

Further tries from Edgy Weaver and Jamie Edmundson allowed Frampton to pull away with Weaver adding a conversion and Mark Chaplin a penalty.

Broad Plain battled hard and scored two tries of their own, converting one and adding a penalty.

The game was sealed when scrum half Andy Pullin flung the ball out for the ball to pass along the line and allow winger Jay Suckling to go over in the corner.

This was a great third team performance.
