Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two
Lydbrook Athletic 1 Dursley Town 0
DURSLEY Town left the Forest of Dean empty-handed despite another battling performance from a squad marooned at the foot of the table as the home side grabbed the only goal in the second half.
The visitors made a positive start with Kyle Ward looking lively up front and Jake Dolbear finding acres of space down the right, although they were unable to carve out a really clear chance.
Lydbrook, however, soon grew into the game and would have taken the lead had Keith Watson not made a double save from Matt Foxwell before Aidan Creighton also saw an effort beaten away.
In all, the Dursley goalkeeper made more than half-a-dozen stops during the first period, but Town were better after the break as Ward and player-boss Phil Miles both snatched at half-chances.
Twenty minutes from time, though, Creighton won a header from a deep free-kick and Lee Morton reacted quickest to lob the ball over the advancing Watson and in off the far upright.
And when Lydbrook defended Watson’s stoppage-time free-kick from halfway with all ten of his team-mates in and around the box, Town met with their 16th defeat in 21 league matches.
Dursley: K Watson; J Dolbear, S Miles (R Cox 75), M Workman, P Lyon; J Woodward (S Coxhead 65), P Miles, W Parry; G Mack (J Minett 60), K Ward, A Griffith.
* Dursley Reserves’ game at Frampton United 3rds in Stroud League Division Four was postponed due to waterlogged pitch, while Dursley Ladies had no game scheduled at the weekend.
