FIREFIGHTERS spent yesterday afternoon and into the night battling a huge barn fire near Yate. 

Crews from Avon Fire & Rescue Service were called to the blaze in Patch Elm Lane, Rangeworthy at 3.42pm, yesterday, Tuesday, September 26. 

The service previously warned nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed since the fire had produced a lot of smoke. 

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. 

A spokesperson from Avon Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called at 3.42pm on Tuesday, September 26 to reports of a barn fire on Patch Elm Lane, Rangeworthy.
 
“On arrival, crews found a barn fire well alight.
 
“At the height of the incident, eight fire engines, a turntable ladder and a welfare unit were on the scene.
 
“Two fire engines and crew remain on the scene monitoring the burn.
 
“The cause of the fire is currently unknown.”
