Our readers nominated the top 15 takeaways in Cam and Dursley, Thornbury, Yate and Sodbury, and we’ve been profiling each of them so you can choose the Gazette Series Best Takeaway 2021 winner.

This week we’re showcasing venues in and around Dursley, including Gravity, a fish and chip shop that opened in Parsonage Street in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Owner Chris Kyriacou said the last year hasn’t been easy but he’s happy with the business.

“To be in the top 15 we’re more than happy. It’s something that shows us we’re doing a good job and it’s always nice to hear positive feedback from our customers,” said Chris, who was born in Cyprus and grew up in Dursley.

Chris planned to start the takeaway in Dursley’s former Barclay’s Bank for more than a year but when the pandemic hit the UK, he had to push back opening day to July 2020.

This hasn’t stopped Gravity quickly becoming a hit with residents, which Chris said shows he made the right decision to set up shop despite the lockdown difficulties.

He said having learnt the trade from his father, Sotiris, winning the Gazette Best Takeaway 2021 would make him and their family proud.

“It would mean the world,” he added.
